Individuals from the encampment at Paxton and Bradley began moving into motel rooms made available through Project Room Key — an initiative aimed at getting aging and medically vulnerable homeless individuals off the streets and into motel and hotel rooms to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These resources are helping us fulfill a mission several months in the making. Outreach teams have been delivering intensive case management, individuals have been matched to housing vouchers and available units, and our sanitation teams have been providing regularly scheduled services for months before the crisis. This represents an important public safety improvement for the area, and Iām working closely with our City departments and law enforcement to secure the area and ensure that the public right of way is maintained and safe for our community.
