The Controller released a report in August 2020 showing we still have a lot of work to do to close the gender gap in our workforce. Today, the City Council voted on recommendations based on that report. Women comprise only 28% of the City’s full-time workforce and lag behind men in hourly pay and gross amounts earned, including bonuses and overtime. In commemorating women’s history month, I wanted to remind us all of how we need to work with intention on this issue. I look forward to reading the forthcoming reports on the City’s efforts to attract, recruit, hire, and retain more women.
