The pandemic has highlighted the equity gap as we continue to see so many individuals and families homeless or on the verge of homelessness. Today’s vote is to adopt a target goal of building 25,000 new units by the year 2025 as the city’s homeless housing goal sets higher and greater goals than the City of Los Angeles has ever set before. We will not be able to fulfill these targets alone. We need all legislators from the halls of the state capitol to the federal government working together to address homelessness and ensure that there are eviction protections and new housing in place to stop individuals and families from falling into homelessness.
