This morning, in collaboration with members from our Sylmar community, we unveiled Phase One of the improvements slated for San Fernando Road. Dubbed the “Moving Beauty Pathway,” a series of pedestrian improvements aims to improve safety while enhancing the local culture of our communities in Sylmar. These improvements were informed by the extensive community engagement process we led in partnership with Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural and the Sylmar Neighborhood Council.
The intersection of Paddock St. Oro Grande St. and Astoria St. along San Fernando Rd. now have high visibility symbols of “Xochitl,” meaning flower and “Ollin,” meaning movement, that help grab the attention of drivers for enhanced pedestrian safety. Additional phases will include art installation along the bike path and additional lighting.
