I was proud to kick off 2020 with our first Public Safety Committee meeting of the year. We were joined today by our LAPD Chief of Police Michel Moore to review the 2019 Crime Statistics and Initiatives. In 2019, crime went down in every major category in our city — including violent and property crime, and the lowest number of homicides since the 1960s. This progress is due to the collaboration and partnership between law enforcement and the community.
Having transparency, accountability, and the ability to measure our effectiveness is of great importance to the public and an oversight role I take seriously as Chair. We’re starting the new decade in the right direction and I look forward to our continued efforts to keep our neighborhoods safe.
