Traffic Safety Pop-Up Event in Sunland Park

Due to the high number of collisions resulting in fatalities or serious injuries along this main Sunland-Tujunga corridor, LADOT selected Foothill Blvd. between Sherman Grove Ave. and Apperson St. as a Priority Corridor, and the intersection of Foothill Blvd. and Oro Vista Avenue was chosen as a Priority Intersection. This will bring additional focus and funding by the LADOT engineers to traffic safety improvements along this stretch.
This Saturday, August 7, from 10 AM to 2 PM, LADOT will be participating in a traffic safety pop-up event in Sunland Park. Stop by to share your ideas on improving traffic safety along this corridor.
If you have any questions about traffic safety here in Sunland-Tujunga, please contact my Tujunga District Office at (818) 352-3287.

The project is a Safe Clean Water Program-funded project led by the City of Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment. The goal is to transform a traditionally-designed street located in the community of Sunland into a green infrastructure corridor to simultaneously improve water quality, increase water supply, reduce area flooding, and create community enhancements.

To attend the meeting and share your thoughts and ideas on this project, please register with Eventbrite at https://orovista-august5.eventbrite.com. At registration you can request translation in Spanish or Armenian, we will do our best to accommodate translation for requests made prior to 12 p.m. on August 5.

Launching A New DASH Route in Sylmar

Traffic congestion and lack of accessible transportation for students at Mission College was a problem in the community that had not been addressed for many years. In 2018 I secured $200,000 to help evaluate the feasibility of launching a hyper local approach to connecting students and members of our community with public transportation that takes them where they need to go.

With the partnership of LADOT Official we were able to launch a new DASH route in Sylmar. The route will operate in Sylmar from the Metrolink Station to Mission College. Service will run from 6 AM to 7 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 6 PM on weekends. This new route will provide greater public transportation options for residents of the Seventh Council District.
For information about the New Service Plan, including details about DASH Sylmar, please visit ladottransit.com/wegotogetherla.

Culmination of the Council District 7 Youth Council

As part of my continued effort to elevate youth voice and participation in the City of Los Angeles, I’m proud to announce that last month marked the culmination of the Council District 7 Youth Council. Twenty-three youth participated, representing each neighborhood across the 7th Council District. Youth council members spent the last ten-months identifying neighborhood issues and working as a team to develop strategies and solutions. This week they had the opportunity to present their ideas to local policymakers from the Los Angeles Youth Development Department, Housing + Community Investment Department, and LA Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department.

Illegal Street Racing and Intersection Takeover Illegal Street Racing and Intersection Takeover

Illegal street racing and intersection takeover activities have seen a rise in the San Fernando Valley which ultimately impacts our communities and local businesses. While enforcement has been the primary method to curtail this dangerous activity, the City’s limited authority to increase fines and penalties, along with the overabundance of locations, makes law enforcement challenging.
Today, I introduced legislation to include a proactive approach using street design elements that make it difficult for drivers to conduct the type of street takeover and speed events that are endangering our communities. Enforcement cannot be the only solution. We need a coordinated effort of enforcement and traffic management strategies in areas known for illegal street racing.
