Phase 2 of the Glenoaks Green Street Project

In partnership with Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment and the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, we started Phase 2 of the Glenoaks Green Street project on the Glenoaks median between Paxton Street and Louvre Street. Phase 1 included improvements on the residential streets on the west side of Glenoaks, as a result, I advocated for Phase 2 to expand onto the Glenoaks median. The project includes the installation of eighteen drywells at five locations with vegetated curb extensions.
This installation is part of my broader effort to deliver healthier, greener neighborhoods and assist the City in meeting water quality standards by removing pollutants such as trash, bacteria, and metals. Other project benefits include increasing groundwater recharge in the San Fernando Groundwater Basin and a reduction in localized flooding.

COVID-19 Testing Sites

While we wait for vaccines to be more widely available, testing is still necessary to slow the spread of the virus. In an effort to address the high number of COVID-19 cases in my district, I secured another free mobile testing site in addition to our permanent sites.
PUC Inspire Charter Academy: 12550 Van Nuys Blvd. in Pacoima will be open 9 AM to 3 PM on Wednesday, January 27 and Saturday, January 30. No appointments needed and walk-up only. Upon arrival, you will be required to register to receive a reference number for testing.
We need to remain vigilant and with our collective efforts, we can help stop the spread and save lives. If you have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 sign up for free testing at one of the testing locations above. Please be sure to bring your insurance information. If you don’t have insurance, bring your Driver’s License or another form of identification. There is no cost to patients for any test, whether or not you have insurance.

While we wait for vaccines to

This morning I am joining Mayor Eric Garcetti and Chief Moore to share the 2020 year-end crime data. While overall crime is down in our City, homicides, victims shot, grand theft auto and assaults were up, a trend paralleled in cities across the nation.
At a time when our City is facing the most dire financial situation it has ever seen, we need innovative and bold solutions in achieving our shared public safety goals. Data-driven approaches must be used to address the root causes of these spikes and implement solutions that directly address these causes.
Diverting roles and responsibilities that have been placed on LAPD to better suited professionals in areas such as homelessness, mental health and youth development will give our officers increased capacity to do the roles they prepared for. While LAPD has made progress over the last twenty years working to implement reform it is paramount to ensure that these reforms are measured for success. We can always work to be better.
Community trust can be built with efforts such as the Community Safety Partnership. Youth development programs that provide access to a wide array of constructive activities and resources create a safer Los Angeles for all. Working together we must work toward an efficient and equitable investment in achieving our public safety goals. It is the centerpiece of the work I will be leading as Chair of the Public Safety Committee and something all Angelenos can work together to achieve.

Women spoke loud and clear about the direction they want for this country. On January 20th, we witnessed #HERstory when we watched Madam Vice-President Kamala Harris sworn into office by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina Supreme Court Justice.

PPE Distribution Drive for Our IHSS Providers and Consumers

This morning, I partnered up with the Personal Assistance Services Council of Los Angeles for another PPE distribution Drive for our IHSS Providers and Consumers in the San Fernando Valley. Providers received a care package of gloves, N-95 masks and individual hand sanitizers. Tremendous thanks to Council President Nury Martinez and the Personal Assistance Council of LA for helping us distribute over 400 care packages to IHSS providers who serve our vulnerable residents.
