Mercury Public Affairs has Severed its Ties with the Republic of Turkey

BREAKING NEWS: Today my office was informed that Mercury Public Affairs has severed its ties with the Republic of Turkey. I am grateful that Mercury Public Affairs has chosen to stand on the right side of history by ending its relationship with Turkey. We can’t allow Turkey’s genocidal rhetoric, denial of the Armenian Genocide, and denial of current war crimes to continue.

We also learned this week that DLA Piper and The Livingston Group, law and public relations firms in Los Angeles, have cut their ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan. With the support of their closest ally (Turkey), Azerbaijan has continued to carry out unprovoked attacks on the Republic of Artsakh.

Together, we said “no more” and our collective voices were heard. As a city and greater LA community, we will continue to stand up to hate. We will not have dealings with any firms that supports or is supported by those who commit or deny genocide.

I’m proud to unveil the latest green project and first shared street in Los Angeles at Bradley Plaza in Pacoima.

The Bradley Plaza and Green Alley will improve water quality by capturing and infiltrating stormwater runoff, eliminating alley flooding, and promoting sustainability.

Partnership with Khalsa Care Foundation to Provide a Hot Meal Program
Partnership with Khalsa Care Foundation to Provide a Hot Meal Program

When the pandemic struck, I commenced a partnership with Khalsa Care Foundation to provide a hot meal program. That partnership evolved into a larger effort with the Department on Disability to provide disabled Angelenos access to meals. Unfortunately resources ceased, but the demand had not.

Today, my motion to fund this effort was approved by the Ad Hoc Committee on Covid-19 Recovery providing Angelenos with disabilities meals made by the Khalsa Care Foundation. 10,000 meals a week will be served to those who need it from November 2nd until the end of the year.

Thank you to the Department on Disability and Khalsa Care for your partnership to ensure that we serve all members of our community.

Tree Emergency on the 12900 Block

Last week my office was contacted by a resident regarding a tree emergency on the 12900 block of Herrick Avenue in Sylmar. A tree branch of significant size was starting to crack from the trunk and hanging very low. In response, my office immediately notified the city’s Urban Forestry Division and had the tree branch trimmed in one hour’s time.

If you see any similar issues such as fallen trees and/or branches, you may report it by calling my office (information below) or by utilizing the city’s free 311 services by dialing 3-1-1 or via the “MyLA311” website or app on your smartphone.

The Hypocrisy of Amy Coney Barrett’s Nomination

The hypocrisy of Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination threatens the rights of millions of women, families, and workers across America. No Supreme Court vacancy has ever been filled this close to an election.

With 13 days left in this election, there’s too much at stake to continue these illegitimate hearings — our health care, a woman’s right to choose, marriage equality, and voting rights all hang in balance. I’m proud to join my colleagues on the right side of history and adamantly oppose Barrett’s confirmation.

Letter to Mercury, a Public Affairs Firm

Today I joined my colleagues on the LA City Council to send a letter to Mercury, a public affairs firm, demanding that the company drop the Republic of Turkey as a client. We can’t allow Turkey’s genocidal rhetoric, denial of the Armenian Genocide and denial of current war crimes to continue.

It’s our collective responsibility to say ‘NO MORE!’ No more to the senseless killings of innocent civilians. No more to the atrocities that are occurring in Artsakh right now. We won’t have dealings with any firm that supports or is supported by those who commit or denies genocide.
