Labor Day is an important time to stop and recognize the men and women who fuel our local economy and keep our streets clean, roads paved, and city safe. This weekend, I’m grateful to the City crews and public safety workers who have worked around the clock during the pandemic—and now throughout the brush fire season—to keep our City running and our neighborhoods safe.

Stakeholder Group Representatives
Seven (7) Stakeholder Group Representatives shall be elected at large. These Representatives shall be elected from the pool of community stakeholders representing business and educational, faith-based, and community, service, youth, and special-interest organizations located in the community or meeting regularly in the community.

Stakeholder Group Representatives shall be elected at large. These Representatives shall be elected from the pool of stakeholders representing non- profits, educational, faith-based, service, youth, and special-interest organizations located or meeting regularly within the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council boundaries. No organization may have more than one stakeholder representative. All Group Representatives must participate on at least one committee.

To apply, please submit your interest statement and contact information to be considered at the next STNC Board meeting. Attending the STNC Executive Committee meeting is not a requirement but is recommended so you may learn more about the position, how to apply and responsibilities of the board position and meeting participation. The heat wave sweeping through California has caused brush fires to break out in various parts of the state. We want you to be prepared in case a brush fire breaks out in your area.

In the San Fernando Valley, we have experienced devastating fires with loss of property. For this reason, I am asking all residents to read our “EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROCEDURES AND CHECKLIST” brochure and prepare an “emergency go-bag” today.

Series of 55-hour WEEKEND FULL CLOSURES

Caltrans District 7 announces a series of 55-hour WEEKEND FULL CLOSURES of eastbound lanes on I-210 in the Los Angeles community of Sylmar for paving work. The first closure is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18, on eastbound I-210 from I-5 to Roxford St.

Illegal Gambling Operation
Illegal Gambling Operation

My office and the LAPD received a tip about an illegal gambling operation on the 10200 block of Sepulveda Blvd in Mission Hills. Mission Division’s Vice Unit served a search warrant and obtain drugs, money, and two animals. Twenty-five individuals are now in custody for this offense. LAPD is also coordinating with the City Attorney’s Nuisance Abatement office to follow up and coordinate with the property owner.

Los Angeles is going to have a heat wave this weekend with temperatures in the low 100’s. The City of LA has 5 cooling centers for individuals and families who need protection from the heat. The cooling center in our district is located at:
