Celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend may look and feel different, but what never changes is the love and gratitude we feel for the special women in our lives. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, doing everything possible to give our kids all that they deserve. I hope you’ll also take a moment to say thank you to the women in your life who love you in that special way mothers do.

To help you manage during this stressful time, I’m pleased to share a free resource made possible through a partnership between Headspace and the LA County Department of Mental Health. Sign up to access guided meditations and other exercises, as well as sleep and movement exercises, designed to help you center your mind and body — all free through 2020. I am pleased to share the progress on the utility pole replacement project in Sunland. My office is working with the Department of Water and Power to replace outdated utility poles and modernize our Electric System Distribution infrastructure. These upgrades make our electric system more reliable and reduce the frequency and duration of outages. This project will also harden our system against wind and rain storms. In addition, the new system can better withstand fire as the new poles have superior fire retardant treatment. If you have any questions about this project, COVID-19, or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact my Pacoima District Office at (818) 485-0600.

Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for all
With lines wrapped around the block (over 900 cars in two hours), we had a successful turnout at our Mother’s Day flower giveaway this morning. This was a great way to celebrate the women going above and beyond in our community, especially during this pandemic.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without to the generosity of our flower growers. The beautiful kalanchoes and orchids (previously headed to the landfills) were donated to our community.

Today I helped deliver meals to the incredible firefighters at Fire Station 98 in Pacoima. I’m thankful for their sacrifice to keep our neighborhoods safe and serve our community during this pandemic. A special thank you to the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City and Wahlburgers for donating lunch to all six fire stations in the 7th Council District.

Today, I visited the construction site of the Summit View Apartments in Lakeview Terrace, which will serve as supportive housing for our homeless veterans. I am proud to salute our vets during National Military Appreciation Week with projects like this one, which will provide our vets with a safe place to call home.
From leading reforms like the “Good Neighbor Policy,” and building housing for homeless women, to supporting Navigation Centers that identify resources and housing to get individuals and families shelter, I’ve been focused on delivering resources to house and support homeless Angelenos in my district. This project builds on the efforts. Thank you to LA Family Housing and Many Mansions for your partnership to make this project possible.

In an effort to provide additional relief measures for Angelenos struggling to make ends meet, the City has announced that LADWP will not shut off utilities to customers for the rest of 2020. Please note, this does not cancel your utility bill. If you can pay your bill, you should continue to do so as the charges will carry over at the end of the emergency period.
