LA Sanitation offers several ways to recycle your live Christmas tree. Through the recycling process, compost and mulch is produced and then made available to residents for free!
– There’s curbside collection; you just need to place the tree curbside next to your green waste bin on collection day.

– Additionally, you can drop-off your trees at three locations in Council District 7.

– Finally, you can visit the MYLA311 website, create a “Bulky Items” ticket, and select “Christmas Tree” in the drop-down menu.

Note: Flocked and artificial trees cannot be recycled. Please place them in the black trash bin.

During the holiday season, local food pantries—which many of our families desperately rely on—temporarily close their doors. It’s why I began the tradition last year of sponsoring a food distribution event to fill that critical void.

Three days ago, in partnership with North Valley Caring Services and local community organizations, we identified 500 families and provided them with the food supplies they need to make sure everyone’s holidays are merry and bright.

With so many individuals in our district living food insecure, we all have the opportunity to help meet the need, either by donating or volunteering.
We are ONE LA.

On December 18, 2022, the world tragically lost one of its most talented singers, songwriters, and influential lyricists: Terry Hall. He will be deeply missed, as there was no stronger voice when it came to calling out the ills of the world—from racism, to war, to gun violence. He simply cared about people and wanted more wrongs to be righted.

On May 29, 2019, I proudly declared “the Specials Day” in LA, honoring Terry and his talented bandmates. It’s a day I will always cherish and our City will, too.

Rest in Power, Terry. You touched the lives of millions with your words that will continue to give strength and fearlessness for our pursuit of a better and more inclusive world. Thank you for your kindness, friendship, and being unapologetically you.

Dec 23, 2022, marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic death of Valentina Orellana-Peralta. Valentina was shot and killed in front of her family when shots were fired by a police officer responding to an incident at a department store.

The video published by the LAPD a year ago, prompted the California Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch its own investigation under AB 1506, a bill I coauthored in 2020, that gives the DOJ the authority to initiate its own investigation of officer involved incidents.

I am continuing conversations with the DOJ in connection to the pending case resolution to achieve justice on the behalf of Valentina and her family. As they mourn the loss of Valentina, I send them my thoughts and heartfelt sympathies.
