Since being elected, prioritizing investments that improve accessibility and repairs to aged infrastructure has remained a strong focus. For years, our community has had to contend with crumbling infrastructure and it’s why I worked with the Bureau of Engineering and Department of Recreation and Parks to install new sidewalks and other slated improvements at Brand Park in Mission Hills on San Fernando Mission Blvd. between Noble Ave. and Sharp Ave. In addition, Brand Park will also be home to 14 newly planted trees and more improvements at the park are slated.
This planned improvement could not have been done without the collaboration and teamwork between departments, staff, and community members.
If you have a corridor in mind that may benefit from sidewalk repairs please contact my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287

Introduced a Motion Related to Improving City Services Access for Youth

I recently introduced a motion related to improving city services access for youth. The motion calls on the Youth Development Department (YDD), with assistance from the Information Technology Agency (ITA) and other relevant departments, to create a single user interface program that creates universal access to youth-related city services and programs.
Currently, there is no singular system that connects youth services citywide. This would allow for the city departments to better coordinate and streamline access to youth programming and services. This effort builds off of the central mission and work I led in the creation of the YDD in 2021.

By streamlining and simplifying access to programs with an ”All Access Youth Pass” we will be providing crucial services that will better connect the more than 800,000 young people in the city, who lack the bandwidth to navigate the labyrinth of city bureaucracy and departments that offer programs for youth. Leading reforms on outdated systems and practices to make city services more accessible and responsive to all residents has been a guiding light of my work as your representative. I will continue to deliver on these long-desired reforms and innovations to make sure no one in our communities is left behind.

Climate change is bringing another heat wave to the Northeast San Fernando Valley and we will continue to see temperatures rise above 100 degrees.
During this time, we must stay vigilant – remember to stay hydrated, check on your elderly neighbors and family, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours.
If you or a loved one needs to seek refuge from the heat, the City of Los Angeles is activating cooling centers today through Friday. All parks will close at 9:00 PM and all pools will be open this Labor Day weekend, Saturday through Monday, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM.

*UPDATE*
Sylmar Recreation Center is Council District 7’s designated cooling center staying open beyond the normal recreation center hours. They will be open Saturday from 8 AM – 9 PM, Sunday and Monday from 10 AM – 9 PM.
For hours of operation of the closest cooling centers near you please visit https://emergency.lacity.org/la-responds/beat-heat

Caltrans recently conducted a clean-up early this week by the I-5 North Bound freeway near Branford Street in Pacoima. My office received reports of trash and debris on state property at this location. As a result of my office’s ongoing intervention with Caltrans District 7, I was able to get this site serviced.
Please feel free to contact my district office (818) 504-3911 to report any trash and debris on state property to initiate the cleanup process with Cal Trans.
