Since the start of the pandemic, it has been my priority to provide the essential resources to prevent the spread of COVID-19. My office partnered with 986 Pharmacy and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in North Hills. In total, we provided 208 vaccines to our CD7 residents at this pop-up vaccine site.

Lighting Improvement Project at Howard Finn Park

I am happy to announce that the lighting improvement project at Howard Finn Park has now been completed. I secured over $100,000 to fund brand new LED light fixtures throughout this park serving the Sunland-Tujunga community. The lights are programmed to brightly illuminate the park and parking lot from dusk until dawn. This project will provide much-enhanced visibility and safety at Howard Finn Park.

This project is just one of many improvements brought to this area under my tenure, such as the recent renovation of North Valley City Hall, the adjacent municipal building to this park. If you see a local park in need, please contact my Pacoima office at (818) 485-0600, Sylmar office at (818) 756-8409, or Sunland-Tujunga office at (818) 352-3287.

Tomorrow – Feb. 9 Earthquake 51 years ago. Over the years, NEHRP (National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program was pivotal in helping establish what is now the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program) agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Geological Survey, made research and policy recommendations that in part contributed to the City of Los Angeles enacting an ordinance in 2015 to retrofit weaker first-story wood-frame buildings and non-ductile, or brittle, concrete buildings, which are both more vulnerable to collapse during strong shaking. NEHRP continues to support and develop the Advanced National Seismic System, including the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system, which is now operational throughout California.

4th February, 2022, we commemorate and celebrate Transit Equity Day in the alignment of Ms. Rosa Parks’ birthday. Ms. Parks refused to give up her seat on a public bus. Her actions changed the transit into more equitable systems.

In recognition of Transit Equity Day, Metrolink invites everyone to take a seat aboard. Riders can arrive at a Metrolink station and board any train at no charge or ticket required. I look forward to continuing work with transit agencies and partners towards a more equitable and safer transit system for all.
